1 AFTER this there was a feast of the Jews and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.2 There is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool which is called in Hebrew Bethesda. Around it are five colonnades.3 In these lay a multitude of invalids \'97 blind, lame, withered.4 TEXT OMITTED5 There was a man there who had had an infirmity thirty-eight years.6 Jesus saw this man lying there and perceiving that he had been there a long time, he said to him, "Do you want to get well?"7 The sick man answered him, "I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is troubled. While I am coming, some other man gets down before me."8 Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your pallet and walk."9 At once the man became well and took up his pallet and began walking. That day was the Sabbath.
