2 When you give gifts of mercy, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, in order that they may be honored by men. I assure you they get their payment in full.3 But you, when you are giving a gift of mercy, must not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,4 so that your gift may be in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.
